Problem: Customer had two large skids that hold rotating equipment offshore in the Gulf. The customer brought the skids in town to replace equipment and noticed heavy pitting and corrosion on the skid floor. They wanted to get a fill in the pitting with a corrosion resistant product that was affordable, good quality, available, and easy to apply.

Application Situation

The client chose Belzona for our case history, product knowledge, quality product, availability and ease of application. Using Belzona 1121 was far more cost effective and timely, than fabricating & welding new plates to the bottom of the skid to repair the corroded area. The Belzona 1121 product was being overcoated by the asset owners spec’d in paint system. The extended overcoat window of Belzona 1121 allowed easy overcoat for the spec’d paint to be applied.

Application Method

1. Abrasive blast was used for surface preparation (SSPC-SP10)
2. Substrate was wiped clean with Belzona 9111 and let dry.
3. Belzona 1121 25kg kit was mixed and applied to the application area. A Belzona applicator was used to trowel on product and fill in pitting.

Belzona Facts

Application was successful. The cost to weld repair was more expensive and not feasible for the timeline they wanted to complete this application.
