Problem: The highly corrosive environment (hydrofluoric, nitric and sulfuric acid) of this secondary containment area below a picking line was suffering extreme erosion on the 550m2 of concrete and its failing GAP-coating.

Application Situation

Every steel mill that refines its product through pickling or electrolytes has issues with harsh chemicals. During a planned shutdown, an inspection revealed the extent of the damage to the concrete.

Application Method

We started by water-jetting the old concrete and then we recast the old gutters and channels, we then raised the containment edge. Followed by the conditioning of Belzona 4911 to the areas to be coated. And then finished of by applying Belzona 4181.

Testing at a third-party laboratory, and other work were done before the application was approved by the customer.
