Problem: A refinery contacted us to solve a CUI (Corrosion Under Insulation) problem with their carbon steel pipeline. The pipeline had been in operation for 20 years, 24 hours a week and had a very high corrosion status which had caused loss of thickness, causing perforations and therefore benzene to leak out from the pipeline.

Application Situation
After mechanical tests carried using Belzona 5871, the refinery opted to manufacture a new 700-metre-long carbon steel line, parallel to the old line, and to coat this new 6” and 700 m line with Belzona 5871.
Application Method
Using the Instructions for Use, Belzona 5871 was brush applied to the new pipeline.
Belzona Facts
The refinery was looking for a thermal insulation coating that would protect the line without having to use the conventional method of insulation, with rock wool and aluminium sheets which was the method they had been using up until they contacted us.
