Problem: Customer had internal defects causing pitting and thin wall metal in two isolated areas on the floor of a wastewater tank. They were looking for a quick repair method because they had to use a rental tank to divert wastewater too, while this was out of service for repair.

Application Situation
The Belzona solution provided a quick repair to provide long term corrosion protection. The customer was paying roughly $1,000 a day for a wastewater tank rental, and needed a repair to be done quickly to get this tank back to service. The quick return to service that the Belzona provided was ideal for this application, while also providing corrosion protection over the defect areas.
Application Method
After safety permitting was complete, we accessed the confined space. We marked and taped off the two defect areas that were on the floor. One was roughly 4'x4' and one was 4'x2'. Next we used emerald grit to abrasive blast the application area to achieve a rough dry clean 3mil minimum anchor profile (SSPC-SP10). We blew a dehumidifier into the asset during application to keep atmospheric conditions under control. Battery powered LED's were used to provide light inside the tank. Belzona 1121 was used to pit fill as needed. Then a two coat system of Belzona 5892 was applied. Inspection was completed per the IFU, to touch up any holidays as needed. Product was allowed to cure before return to service.
Belzona Facts
Belzona saved the customer the replacement costs of a new tank. The quick return to service allowed the customer to save on rental tank costs, that were being used to hold wastewater while this tank was out of service. Weld repair was not an option because of the location of the defect and the nature of the thin wall metal, so an alternative method was needed. Belzona data sheets were helpful in giving the customer confidence in long term corrosion protection.
