Application: CEP-Centrifugal Pumps (CEP)
Substrate: Cast Iron
Customer Location: Cincinnati, OH

Problem: These 100 year old pumps are experiencing corrosion in the packing gland housings that is causing damage to the rotating equipment.

Picture of the pitting corrosion.

Belzona 1311 (Ceramic R-Metal) applied after proper surface prep was achieved.

Lowering the upper casing into place to cast the Belzona. Since this is a 100% solids, no VOCs product whatever we cast to will be the final dimension.

Packing gland cast in place and left to cure overnight.

Application Situation
This municipality has been a customer of Belzona since 1981. Most of their pumping equipment has been coated with Belzona. They chose us instead of welding for this repair in order to save time and expense.
Application Method
The area was grit blasted to SSPC SP 10 (near white finish). Belzona 1311 (Ceramic R-Metal) was mixed and applied to the packing gland housing using Belzona applicators and spatulas. After the new housing was set, the upper casing was lowered to the mating surface on the lower casing creating a perfect cast.
Belzona Facts
The other option considered was welding. This customer has had so many great successes with Belzona they decided to use our product and procedure to repair this. There were 6 more of these completed that year.
