Drainage Pit Restoration
Industry: Chemical & Petrochemical (PETR)
Application: TCC-Tanks and Chemical Containment Areas (TCC)
Substrate: Concrete
Customer Location: AGIOS IOANNIS RENTIS
Application Date: June 2026
Products: Belzona 4311 (Magma CR1),Belzona 4911 (Magma TX Conditioner)
Problem: The customer was experiencing deterioration of a concrete drainage pit caused by continuous exposure to water, cleaning chemicals and general service conditions. The degraded concrete surface had become vulnerable to further damage, increasing the risk of chemical ingress, accelerated deterioration and higher maintenance costs. The customer required a durable, chemically resistant solution that could be applied during a planned shutdown, restoring the integrity of the concrete while providing long-term protection and minimizing future maintenance requirement

Application Situation
The Belzona solution provided a fast and reliable method of restoring and protecting the concrete drainage pit without the need for extensive civil works or replacement. The application was completed within a short shutdown period, minimizing disruption to the customer's operations. By protecting the concrete against chemical attack and future deterioration, the system will reduce maintenance requirements, extend the service life of the structure and help avoid the costs associated with recurring repairs or replacement.
Application Method
The drainage pit was initially cleaned using a high-pressure water jet to remove dirt, contaminants and loose material. The concrete surface was then mechanically abraded using a grinder to achieve a clean, sound substrate suitable for coating application. After surface preparation, Belzona 4911 (Magma TX Conditioner) was applied by brush as the primer. Once the primer had cured to the appropriate stage, Belzona 4311 (Magma CR1) was applied by brush and roller to the specified thickness, ensuring complete and seamless coverage of all concrete surfaces.
Belzona Facts
The Belzona system was selected as a cost-effective alternative to concrete replacement, eliminating the need for extensive demolition and reconstruction works. Its excellent adhesion to concrete, outstanding chemical resistance and seamless finish provide long-term protection against deterioration in aggressive service conditions. The solution minimized downtime, reduced future maintenance requirements and extended the service life of the drainage pit, delivering significant long-term cost savings for the customer.
