Problem: Client has a small sump at the bottom of a large holding tank. The tank was previously lined with a polyurea coating. The sump has a 7” OD discharge pipe extending out of it to drain materials where needed. The sump internal liner was failing, and the pipe was externally and internally seeing corrosion. This customer passes well completion fluids in these tanks and it was eating away at the previous polyurea liner over time.

Application Situation
Customer chose Belzona for our superior products and cost savings to complete the work. Our chemically rated products can withstand their service. Our solution was cost effective, can stop the corrosion since no new metal introduced, and was completed in days. This was a better option compared to cutting out, welding and replacing. The application area was tight fit, and hard to access making welding difficult. Also, it was very difficult, costly, and unsafe to try and reline the area with new polyurea liner. Belzona extended the life of the asset rather than having to replace with new.
Application Method
1. Abrasive blasting surface preparation (SSPC-SP10)
2. Apply Belzona 1121 to pit fill defects on pipe and sump
3. Apply 2 wrap / 4-layer system of 4151 & 9371 to the pipe externally
4. Apply internal liner to sump and pipe with Belzona 1321
Belzona Facts
Belzona was more cost effective than weld repair and a new polyurea liner. Using Belzona also allowed return to service to be quick, which saved downtime cost.
