Pump Casing Repaired with Belzona Materials
Industry: Power (POWR)
Application: CEP-Centrifugal Pumps (CEP)
Substrate: Carbon steel
Customer Location: Thailand
Application Date: January 2020
Products: Belzona 1121 (Super XL-Metal),Belzona 1341 (Supermetalglide)
Problem: Corrosion and erosion damage were identified on the pump casing surface. The deteriorated condition of the pump component highlighted the need for repair to restore the pump's performance and to ensure the pump could be put back in service to continue operating efficiently. If left unaddressed, the client could face costs associated with replacing the pump component and extended downtime.
Severe damage on pump casing
Pump casing was prepared by using steel grit blasting until a minimum depth of 75 microns and Surface cleanliness by Swedish standard Sa 2.5 was achieved
The first coat of Belzona 1341 (Supermetalglide) was applied on the prepared surface
Complete application on the pump casing
Application Situation
The pump casing was delivered to the workshop together with the pump impeller for the repair.
Belzona 1341 (Supermetalglide), fluid grade system for protecting immersed surfaces suffering from erosion-corrosion, was offered as a solution together with Belzona 1121 (Super XL-Metal), a paste-grade material with extended working life for repairing and rebuilding machinery and equipment.
Application Method
1. Steel grit blasting was used to prepare the surface of the pump casing. A minimum depth of 75 microns and Surface cleanliness by Swedish standard Sa 2.5 is expected.
2. Use Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) to clean the surface. All loose materials on the casing were removed.
3. Apply the first coat of Belzona 1341 (Supermetalglide) at a dry film thickness of 250 microns
4. On the pitting damage areas, use Belzona 1121 (Super XL-Metal) to fill.
5. Apply the second layer of Belzona 1341 (Supermetalglide)
Belzona Facts
