Wear Resistance Cold Bond Plating

KHIA ID: 10110
Industry: Mining & Quarrying (MINQ)
Application: SHM-Solids Handling Machinery (SHM)
Substrate: Carbon steel
Customer Location: Huntsville, AL
Application Date: March 2021
Products: Belzona 1111 (Super Metal),Belzona 1812 (Ceramic Carbide FP)

Problem: This small cyclone was faced with years of wear from the material this plant produces. This facility produces the granules that sandpaper and grinding wheels are made from.

The first picture is where the granules had eaten away the surface of the cyclone. We had to cut it out to make it a better sealing surface.

Then we applied Belzona 1111 for the adhesion of the plate along with Belzona 1812 tot he center of the plates for wear resistance.

Next we applied the first plate using Belzona 1111.

Then we applied the final piece that was custom made for this application. (Note the handles) This piece was really heavy due to the material it was made from and the added weight of Belzona. But this allowed for removal and touch up for future use.

Application Situation
The cost of this application was very minimal ($2,200) compared to the alternative of replacing. The time savings it gave the client was several days. We had this cyclone back up and going in two hours verses two to three days down time to replace.
Application Method
We used grinders to cut away the jagged edges and to create a smooth edge. Then we used the MBX Bristle Blaster to prepare the surface for adhesion. We applied Belzona 1111 and 1812 with Belzona supplied knife and applicator pad.
Belzona Facts
The cost of this application was $2,200.00 compared to the replacement cost of the cyclone and downtime the client saved thousands of dollars.
